Lorac Mega Pro 3 Sneak Peek

Here’s a sneak peek of the new Lorac Mega Pro 3 palette. I would love to say that I’m excited but after buying the Lorac Pro 3, I feel like the formula has changed. The shimmer shades were so powdery that the fall out was horrible.

This palette doesn’t scream anything extraordinary but it would offer a lot of every day looks. Pomegranate is the only shade with any real “pop” from the palette. It might have been nice to add a few more bright shades to add more depth. I’m a little underwhelmed. I think Mega Pro 2 had better color selection.

No news on its release but you should expect it around fall for around $59. Start saving those Ulta points. A lower price tag could make it worth the purchase.

Marc Jacobs New Airblush

Marc Jacobs has launched a new Air Blush that comes with the claim it lasts for 24 hours! If you wear makeup as much as I do you know that blush is usually the first to go, faded to non-existence after a few hours of wear. I did not wear it for a full 24 hours but this is what it looked like after 9 hours of being the in Texas heat. That means 100 degrees and a 110 heat index, 100% humidity.

image

This is in the color Kinks and Kisses. It retails for a whopping $42 at Sephora.com which is a steep price for blush. But I will say this it does give you a good amount of product, coming in at .282oz.

One side is a lighter pink and the other is a peachy color. You can swipe your brush across for a custom blend or focus on one side for a stronger pink or peach tone. It is very buttery soft, little to no kick off, and very pigmented. I also like the luxury feel to the compact. It is large shiny black compact with a large mirror.

I received this for my review, so I did not buy it. But I would buy it. In fact I’d like at least one other….Lush and Libido is one I’d like to buy. The staying power justifies the price for me.

Taking Down Jeffree Star

Jeffree Star has been a YouTube star for a relatively short period of time but his “star”dom has risen fairly quickly. His over the top style, makeup, and general persona have caught a lot of interest. Recently he’s launched into his own makeup line that has received rave reviews by fellow YouTubers. His liquid lipsticks are known to sell out as soon as they’re launched and his new eyeshadow palette has been highly sought after…..until now.

Watching your favorite YouTuber take a spiral down the “pay me to say anything” hole has been happening more and more frequently. It’s hard to know who to trust. You watch someone with millions of followers say something is amazing, buy it, and find that it’s actually garbage. But the pay-for-good reviews is happening more and more, and it seems no one wants to really be honest about how a product is performing and risk being blacklisted by that brand. Until now. Stephanie Nicole is quickly becoming the go-to reviewer that tells it like it is, and more times then not, she tells you its crap and she’s right.

Stephanie has recently posted a very long and blasting video regarding the character of Jeffree Star. I want to share it because it’s truly insightful. It definitely was eye opening. And it really draws awareness to who we support, whether it be by watching a video, buying a product, or just liking/subscribing. I will not be supporting JS products, his videos or anything to do with his brand. I liked Jeffree Star until I saw him smoking pot in the his videos. I think it sends a horrible message glamorizing drug use. So many teens look up to him, and watch his tutorials. But that aside, there is much worse things about his character that Stephanie Nicole brings to light. She shares actual video footage/tweets/messages of his antics, and violence against women.

Vicks Sweet Dreams Humidifer

Cold and flu season is officially here! I’m excited for them to try out the new humidifer from Vicks. It is cool mist so I don’t have to worry about them putting their hands near it and getting burned. It has little packets that will emit scents to help get them to sleep or congestion. But the real plus is the cute animals it projects on the ceiling. So cute!

Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage Eyeshadow Quad Review

My makeup bills have quickly shot up lately and I don’t dare add them up. It was a necessary evil though as I felt my makeup was getting boring and my looks stale. I love makeup, but I don’t love makeup enough to have 50 palettes and 100 lipsticks and every new thing that comes out. I like quality over quantity. Yes, I own about 12 YSL lip stains but then I only have a few other lipsticks and that’s it.

So 3 months ago I started doing a lot of research into new makeup to see what was good and worth the investment to revamp my style. I fell into Tom Ford simply from a perfume sample that came in my Sephora order. It was Tom Ford Noir and I loved it, and I bought it. I had never strayed from what I believed was my signature scent, Burberry Classic. I knew Tom Ford recently went into makeup and had even pinned some lipsticks but $52 seemed like a lot at the time.

So I started looking into Tom Ford quads. At $80 each it’s a big investment. Is it worth the price? Yes, I found out. I watched a lot of videos, swatches and first bought Silvered Topaz (will review separately). I loved it. So when I went to buy a second one I kept seeing that Cocoa Mirage was their best seller. I quickly dismissed it because it looked sooo boring. Just some browns, mostly matte. But it kept popping up and I kept seeing videos and liking the results. One of the things I was also trying to get away from was always doing bronzey shimmers, basically anything with glitter. I needed mattes. I lacked those greatly, so I drank the kool-aid and bought cocoa mirage.

imageFrom the onset it looks just like plain browns but it’s more than that. You really do get what you pay for when you buy Tom Ford. If you’re like me, I have super sensitive skin, as well as my eyes. Any little fall out makes my eyes go red and irritated. Tom Ford literally has no fall out. They are creamy and buttery. You can apply them lightly or heavy for my dramatic looks. So with four simple colors you can do endless looks. I’m enjoying trying more matte looks, but I have to say that one shimmer brown in the quad is a real winner. Sometimes I just wear that on the lid for a simple smoky eye and it builds up really nice. It is a coppery brown with just the right amount of shimmer. Temptalia ranked it an A and I agree. Cocoa Mirage is not boring. It is a high quality quad that has many looks and is amazing quality to justify the price.

imageI swipped about three times and you can see where the edges of the swipe are lighter and the center more bold. So you can see how the color builds up nicely.

Scentbird Perfume Subscription

I love this new monthly subscription company that is all about trying new perfumes. It is for both men and women and it’s called Scentbird. For $14.99 a month you receive a 8ml bottle of designer perfume. And for my followers you can use code Coco25 and get 25% off your first months subscription! So you take a quiz that helps you narrow down your preferences, you also insert your favorite brands, perfumes you’ve liked in the past and it gives you a list of perfumes that would be good for you to try based on the information you entered.

imageNow my biggest issue with perfume is I’m allergic to a lot of them — too much floral gives me a blinding headache. I wasn’t sure this avenue of finding a perfume was going to work because of it. I chose more “fruity” and “spicy” perfumes rather than “floral”. I did the quiz and set up and it lead me to try Gucci Guilty and I LOVE IT! There are over 350 scents to choose from……Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Bvlgari, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, Chloe, Coach….and the list goes on and on.

imageYour first month’s subscription gives you this cute little black case that twists to push the bottle up and down. The vial slides in and out of the black case. An instruction card is included. You rate the perfume after you’ve tried it and it gives you new options. You add the ones you’d like to try to your perfume queue and they select a new perfume each month from your list. The size is perfect for traveling and it’s cheaper than the rollerballs you buy at Sephora and Ulta.

Tom Ford is next on my list to try! And this is going to make my life so much easier with TSA on my next vacation. 🙂

Rocksbox Monthly Jewelry Subscription

Rocksbox is this great jewelry service that will send you three pieces of jewelry based on a style survey you complete. Each box is curated specifically towards you and what you like to wear. You wear them, return them when you’re done and they’ll send you three more pieces out. You also have your own personal wishlist that you can add items to, so they know exactly what you’d like to try out. I’ve kept boxes they’ve sent me for four weeks and some four days. I’ve received some amazing Kendra Scott pieces in my Rocksbox at discount prices. So if you like what you receive they will sell it to you at a discounted price. They also give you a $10 credit each month to go towards the jewelry you want to keep in addition to the discount. So keep it or wear it and return it.

I think the best thing is that it gives you a chance to change up your jewelry without committing to buying it. Sometimes I buy jewelry thinking it’s a great piece and wear it a few times and then I’m bored and it never really sees daylight again. So this way I can wear my Rocksbox jewelry a week or whatever and then send it back for a whole different set of options.

Rocksbox has been kind enough to extend a free month to all my readers! Just use code “cocoforbeautyxoxo” to get a free month of jewelry.

Here are a few pictures of boxes I’ve received and also how I styled a few of the pieces.

image

imageThis Lauren Hope necklace was such a beautiful color! I didn’t keep it but it was fun to “borrow” it for a couple of weeks.

imageimageThis CC Skye necklace I kept and I wear it almost daily. CC Skye is this amazing edgy jewelry designer. I have a pair of her earrings on my wishlist right now.

They try to taper each box so the pieces work together. In this picture I was sent the earrings, necklace and cuff in one box and it all worked beautifully together. This Lauren Hope cuff I ended up keeping.

Beauty Bag MUST HAVES!

Here are my current beauty bag MUST HAVES that will take you year round in the beauty and makeup department:

Pixi Unique Pink Tinted Brillance Lip Balm ($14.00)

tintedbrilliancebalm-closeup-uniquepink-24jul14-web_1This works with your pH level to create your own personal shade of pink. I have been using the Dior Lip Glow for a couple of years, which works just like this except the price is nearly double at $25. I bought this wanting to compare the two and Pixi blew away the Dior. I felt like the shade of pink was better, I liked that it was super hydrating and that the color is a slight stain so it lasts a long time! You can purchase online and earn 300 points for signing up and that will take off $3 making this $11 instead of $14!

Nuxe Shimmering Dry Oil (1.6 oz bottle $39)

I fell in love with Nuxe products on a trip to Paris in 2011. I had heard how fabulous the pharmacies were at having the most incredible beauty products and it didn’t disappoint. This oil by Nuxe is amazing. It is for face, body and hair. They do have a version without the shimmer but I find the shimmer very subtle and gives your hair and face a natural glow. It doesn’t look like you’re covered in glitter by no means. It just gives a subtle healthy looking glow. And the smell is amazing! I have a lot of allergies to perfumes, and this did not bother me at all.

fp-nuxe-huile-prodigieuse-or-50ml-face-2014-04Nuxe Reve de Miel Moisturizer (1.5oz $39)

This is hands down the BEST moisturizer I’ve ever used and I feel like I’ve tried them all. I stopped using this for about a year as I was trying a lot of different high end moisturizers that were coming in my monthly box subscriptions and nothing compares to this. I recently went back to it and never again will I stop using it. Great for super dry skin like me, but they have others for oily skin and anti-aging.

fp-nuxe-revedemiel-creme-visage-jour-fermee-face-2014-04Bodyography Brow Duo (Price $19)

The Essential Brow Trio. Featuring three matte brow powders in one handy compact flattering for all hair colors. This multifunctional product can act as a matte eyeshadow and liner as well! It lasts all day long and I’ve slept in it and woken up to still perfect brows. I used to use Anastasia’s brow pencil but this little duo is perfection. You can blend and make your own color.

3595-Brow-Trio-WebI would not get the duo without the brow brush. It really creates the perfect shape to your brows. Brow brush, $19.00

1010-brow-brush-720x720Loreal Infallible Makeup Pro-Setting Spray ($12-15)

This sets your makeup in a few sprays. It is gentle and non-irritating and can stand up against the hot days of summer. No one wants their makeup dripping down their face. I tested this out at the beach. I wanted to see if it could hold up through a day of sun and sand and it did! Normally I don’t wear makeup to the beach but I wanted to see how good this actually is and it passed the test.

Cos21q_1_pack-shot2Better Than Sex Mascara ($19)

The name is something else, huh? But this seriously is the holy grail of mascaras. It has fibers so it thickens and lengthens. And like some other fiber mascaras, it is not hard to remove. The brush is big and helps really separate and lengthen your lashes.

s1533439-main-hero-300Dr. Jart+ BB Cream SPF 45 ($39)

This BB Cream offers really good full coverage but without being heavy. Has an SPF 45 while also containing anti-aging properties. My face is dry and this is very hydrating. It’s a great multi-tasking beauty balm that I’ve been devoted to. Comes in two different shades. I use the light to medium.

A moisturizer, sunscreen, and treatment serum, this all-in-one product also includes advanced brightening properties. Ideal under makeup, its natural-looking coverage minimizes the appearance of imperfections and evens the skintone. Antioxidant bio-peptides and adenosine protect skin from harsh environmental factors while restoring firmness and elasticity. This lightweight formula features mineral sunscreens to provide broad spectrum sun protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Skin is left looking smooth, perfect, and natural.

Bobbi Brown HOT Collection for Spring 2015

bbThe new Bobbi Brown HOT Collection has just launched! It is currently available at Sephora. I “like” Bobbi Brown but I don’t tend to “love” Bobbi Brown. I’m more of a Nars girl. Bobbi Brown tends to be more neutral based so I think this new Hot Collection really steps up and offers some bright pops of color for lips and shimmery lids and cheeks for spring and summer. Until this collection, I haven’t seen any blushes that have come close to the cult classic Orgasm by Nars. The blush kits offered in this new collection give a similar pink shimmery flush.

I ordered the lip pencil in Hot Berry and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived yesterday. It is bright and fun for spring and summer. It reminds me of YU by Nars. It came with a nice big sharpener too. I’m going for the eye palette next!

Bobbi Brown teamed up with Kate Upton as the poster girl for this new line. Kate is from Florida and Bobbi wanted her to showcase that beachy look with a woman who exudes easy confidence.

Review: Crumbs Bake Shop At Home Cupcake Mix

Are you ready for my scathing review of the Crumbs Bake Shop kit? Well here we go! Lol!

I was excited when I saw the Crumbs cupcake kit at my local Target a few months ago. I did do a little double take at the $10 price tag. Like, say whaaat? I thought “okay, so NO ONE is going to pay that price, I’ll wait till its got the red clearance sticker.” It never did get clearanced but they did lower the price point to $7.99. And since I wanted to make my son some cupcakes for his birthday before his big party he’ll have next weekend, I thought this was a good time to try it.

Now let me tell you, I am not a fan of boxed desserts. I think if you’re going to eat something high sugar, high fat, high calorie then at least let it be fresh and without all those preservatives. But some of them are not bad. It’s just I usually bake fresh. I do LOVE Crumbs Bake Shop. Every time I’m in NYC, I always take my kids there. Their cupcakes are seriously delicious and I’m glad to see after closing their doors that they’re reopening some of them again.

I went home to make it and realized very quickly that I was missing some ingredients. See, something important that’s missing…..oh that lovely little visual display of things you need to make this. So when I was in Target and looked, I just assumed it had all the basics which I already had in my kitchen. I do not, however, stock cream cheese unless I need it. So if you buy this, make sure to read through the first three things to check for items you may need.

image

So I had to get back in the car and go back for cream cheese. These instructions are no joke. I thought they were, frankly, ridiculous. I just feel like if I do buy a box kit, isn’t it supposed to be easy? Quick?

So this is everything that the kit includes.

image

imageimageimage

So I mixed Pouch 1 – main mix – and it had sprinkles already in the mix and it came together well. It had a weird color and consistency though…like pudding. And notice it doesn’t say “fill up to 1/3 or 1/2”, just to fill equally. So then I had some that had more by the end and I was trying to even it up. Which was a pain. I also think there’s too much oil that the recipe calls for because there’s not a lot of mix for 2/3 cup of oil. Which would explain a problem I had later on….

imageimage

So the recipe calls to bake them for 17-18 minutes. I baked mine for 18 minutes and stuck the middle and it was clean. However, a couple had to be thrown away because while they cooled the middle collapsed in and felt squishy. So scrapped two at that point. I guess they needed longer. I would say at least 19 minutes, probably 20.

So next I made the first of two frostings. This is where I was annoyed. So the frosting mix is basically a bag of powdered sugar and you still have to cream butter and cream cheese. I wish I would have known that from the beginning. I’m starting to feel ripped off at this point in the process. I just spent $8 and then another $6 in butter and cream cheese. Why not just go to Crumbs and buy a damn cupcake?! Okay, I told you this was gonna be scathing. Lol!

image

So I’m mixing my frosting together with the sugar it comes with and I decided to taste it to make sure it’s ok. I don’t know what it is but it’s soooo sweet. Too sweet. Sickly sweet. I even added a little extra butter and it didn’t improve much. I have a recipe for the most amazing cream cheese frosting that I should have made but I wanted to follow through with this nightmare and see it through. Lol

Until I got to the point where it said I had to scoop out the middle of the cupcake to put frosting in the middle. Look, the frosting is gross, so I don’t think I wanna add more into the center so I skipped that. Sorry!

image

The instructions were not really clear on HOW to get that icing shape. So I ended up just winging it. I slathered it on the top and rolled the sides in a plate of sprinkles and that worked really easy. In fact, I would definitely do cupcakes like that again because it worked well.

But….here’s where the too much oil in the recipe came to play. My cupcakes started coming out of their liners just at the simplest of touches, worse when I had to frost them and apply sprinkles. I was practically holding it together to get those sprinkles on. All of their liners looked like this from the time I took them out of the muffin pan.

image

Now, the second frosting packet. This is like the never ending cupcake recipe. So you have a second frosting bag that you’re supposed to mix with more butter and cream together. It was very firm and hard to mix, and once it starts mixing it reacts and turns yellow to create the rosette. In general, it stays a pretty stiff frosting.

image

They include a pastry bag and say you apply the “rosettes” but frankly it’s just a little squeeze of some yellow frosting in the center. And the frosting is worse than the first in taste and texture.

So here is the final product.

Presentation: Not Bad…the cupcake liners are very cute and very iconic to Crumbs.

Time: Took me 1.5-2 hours to make these, not including the going to the store for more things.

Price: Horrible, especially considering all the butter and cream cheese on top of the high price.

Solution: Go to a good bakery and spend a little more. Take it home, sit down, put your feet up and have a glass of wine! But if you like the boxed sets and want the look of these, just get a box of the Funfetti that sells for like $1.20 and a tub of frosting and sprinkles. Total of that would be $5 and I bet it would be less stressful than this and you’d achieve a very similar look.

Happy Baking y’all! 🙂
